Weekly Updates – Monday, Sept. 23 – Terry Fox Run, Hot Lunch, Orange Shirt Day

Dear families,

Here is what’s happening at MRCS for the week of September 23.

1. Terry Fox Run

This Wednesday September 25, we will be taking part in the annual Terry Fox Run. Elementary school students (k-5) will start at 8:45 AM in the gym with a warmup and instructions. Middle and High School students will start at 9:30 AM, also beginning in the gym.

All students should make sure to bring their own water bottle and a toonie to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation. Students should come dressed for the weather as this event will happen rain or shine. Parents are welcome to join.

2. Community Survey

Throughout the year, Maple Ridge Christian School will be sending out short community surveys in order to engage and assess the needs of our community. If you feel inclined, please fill out this survey by Tuesday, October 1.

3.  Hot Lunch – Subway

The very first hot lunch of our fall term will be this Thursday, September 26. The item on the menu is Subway sandwiches! For those who have ordered, don’t worry about packing lunches for your child that day.

For any parents who have yet to register but would like to order for future hot lunches up until Christmas, please register on Munch a Lunch and see Hot Lunch Registration for more information.

The next hot lunch after September 26 will be Thursday, October 10 – Hot Dogs and Booster Juice! Make sure to pre-order by Thursday, October 3.

For any questions or concerns, please email Volunteer Hot Lunch Team.

We are looking for sponsors for our Hot Lunch program; if you would like to sign up for a specific date, use the Hot Lunch Sponsorship Sign Up. For more information, please contact .

4. Orange Shirt Day and National Truth and Reconciliation

On Friday, September 27, students are encouraged to wear an orange t-shirt to school to recognize and promote the awareness and education of the residential school system in Canada and acknowledge its lasting impact on the Indigenous communities. We pray for healing for those families affected and the trauma experienced by many and continue to support the ongoing process of reconciliation. Students will be receiving age appropriate education around this topic in their classes throughout the week.

Note: There is no school on Monday, September 30 in honour of National Truth and Reconciliation Day, where we recognize and reflect on the history and ongoing legacy of residential schools.

5. Parking & Traffic Flow

Thank you for helping keep our traffic flowing through the parking lot! Keep up the great work!

6. Dress for Weather

A special note to parents of students in Grades K-5: Please be sure to send your child dressed for the weather. We go outside for recess and lunch break rain or shine, so please ensure your child has appropriate clothing for all weather conditions. We also ask that you send a ziploc bag with a change of clothes to school with your child so that we can be prepared for any accidents that may occur. Thank you!
