Weekly Updates – Monday, March 3 – Anastasia, SLC, Hot Lunch, Move In Volunteers

Dear Families,

1. Anastasia – The Musical

The Maple Ridge Christian School Drama Department production of Anastasia begins this Wednesday, March 5 until March 8. Based on the book by Terrence McNally, Anastasia tells the tale of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia who may have escaped the execution of her family. Years later, an amnesiac orphan of similar appearance teams up with two con-men in order to uncover the secrets of her past.

Our drama department has worked for months to prepare an amazing show, with Mr. Reg Parks directing. Please come out and see the show!

Tickets for Anastasia can be purchased at Theatre in the Country website with shows through March 5-8.

2. Food Donations for Esperanza Ministries Trip

For a week over Spring Break, a group of our high school students will be serving at Esperanza Ministries in a remote area of Vancouver Island. The parent kitchen team will be buying and preparing food to fuel these growing bodies.

We are requesting support for the trip in these ways:

  • donations for some of the non-perishable food items
  • food coolers that can be borrowed for the week
  • cash donations to purchase food

You can sign up to support the trip using this form.

Please drop off all items at the front office by Tuesday, March 11.

3. Student Led Conferences (SLC)

On Thursday, March 6 from 8:30AM – 8:00PM,  students K-8 ONLY will lead Student-Led Conferences (SLCs). SLCs are a communication tool that gives you insight into your child’s learning progress through your child’s point of view. Students will share their learning progress and identify evidence of growth. It will be attended by the student, parent/guardian, and the teacher. While the teacher will be present in the room, the SLC is led by the student.

Please note that this is not a parent/teacher meeting, and the focus will be on the student and the parent/guardian. Should you wish to speak with the teacher, we ask that you send a separate email to coordinate a different time for discussion.

Sign up by 12:00 PM on Wednesday, March 5 to book a time to hear what your child has prepared to share.

Sign up by 7:00 PM on March 3 for optional drop-in child care.

School will still be in session for high school students Grades 9-12.
