We are so proud of our students and community – together we have hit our goal of $50,000! This is such an amazing achievement and it has been a blessing to see how God is moving in our community. We are proud to continue to build the legacy of MRCS and to support our local community through the Friends In Need Food Bank.
All students who are at school on Friday are expected to walk. If you do not want your child to participate, please do not have them attend school Friday as we will not have adequate supervision during the walk. Please report your child’s absence to the office if you plan to keep him/her home.
Below is additional information about the logistics of the day on Friday. Please read it through and if you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher or Jessica at .

Stations
The Walkathon will cover 5 stations in total. There will be snacks and refreshments offered at each station.
Each station will have a bathroom to use. There will be a portable toilet at Boundary Park and an EMERGENCY ONLY washroom along Powell Ave. Each station will have a first aid kit.
Dress
We are asking students to dress in MRCS apparel if they have it, or MRCS colours (blue/black/white) if they don’t. It looks like the weather should be pretty nice, so please ensure your child is prepared for the weather (hat, sunscreen, etc).
Volunteer
If you have volunteered for the day you should have received an email from Jessica in the last couple of weeks. If you are wanting to volunteer (including walking with your child) and have not heard from Jessica, please email her as soon as possible at . If you are volunteering, please meet at 10:00 AM in the new gym on Friday for a quick volunteer meeting before we get our volunteers to each of their areas.
Safety
The safety of our students is the most important aspect and has been greatly taken into consideration. There will be volunteers walking with classes, assisting with traffic control, directing students, and at each station. In addition, there will be a driver available to pick up any students along the route if they are unable to finish, and a fully certified first aid attendant available to attend students along the route. Each station will also be supplied with a first aid kit.
If your child needs an accommodation for the walk and we are not yet aware of this please ensure you contact your child’s classroom teacher before Friday.
Surprise Ending
We have a surprise ending for the students at the end of the route. Please send your child with a change of clothes and a towel. There will be an option to bypass this surprise finish if they do not wish to take part.
Bonus Milestone Motivator
We are so proud of each and every student that has fundraised, donated, spread the word about MRCS, ran a lemonade stand, sold handmade products and every other creative fundraising we have seen. We would love to reward each and every student and so we are adding one more Milestone Motivator that we are going to leave open until June 8. If we hit $60,000, we will have an ice cream day for everyone on the last day of school.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. We are looking forward to a fun and successful Walkathon!
