Walkathon Month Begins!

It’s Thursday, May 1, which means it’s officially the start of Walkathon month! The fundraising pages on Raisely ARE NOW OPEN. Here is the link to donate: Maple Ridge Christian School Walkathon. Let the fundraising begin!

Each student will be sent home today or tomorrow with flyers to hand out with the Raisley website link and QR code. If you need additional flyers to send out, please feel free to stop by the office to get additional copies. Over the next few weeks, you will see updates about the progress leading up to the day of the Walkathon on May 30, and information about weekly challenges where students will be entered into a draw for certain amounts raised.

Our goal is to raise $50,000, with 10% of the donations going towards Friends in Need Food Bank in our community. We are challenging each student to raise $150 but you can also edit that amount and increase it on your donation profile page!

Prizes will be awarded to students who have the most donors, and also who have raised the most funds in each of the elementary, middle, and high school groups. Some of our staff have offered to do some pretty funny things when we reach certain milestones. Let your kids know about these things!

$10,000 – Mr. Vos eats bugs
$20,000 – Mrs. Wilson dyes her hair grey
$30,000 – Tape Miss L and Miss S to the wall for recess
$40,000 – Ice bucket Ms. Lius, Mrs. Brown and Mr. Unger
$50,000 – Mr. Lafleur, Mr. Ketchum, Mr. Coates drink a gross smoothie (look out high school students – you may get an opportunity to choose some of these ingredients!)

Throughout the month of May, all donations can be sent through Raisely, a trusted fundraising platform which other Christian schools have used before. This will allow you to share the donation page with family, friends, and loved ones to donate online, without the need to collect pledge forms. If you have not signed up yet – please look back for emails from Carolina Louback regarding registering. Weekly updates for our goal will be included in the Monday Updates, and you can keep track of our goal on our school thermometer at the school and our social media accounts.

Our Walkathon event will take place from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM on May 30, with a celebratory wrap up assembly right after. The official route and schedule will be sent home closer to May 30. The route for the Walkathon will be a total of 5 KM, with Kindergarteners walking just under 2 KM. Stations and bathrooms will be placed along the route.

The official announcement for the total amount raised, prizes and “Milestone Motivator” events will take place at the June 13 all school chapel.

We are so excited for this event, and we still need volunteers to make this a success. If you are available to volunteer on May 30th, please return your volunteer form or reach out to Jessica Marando at

We greatly appreciate your support for this event, and we look forward to making this event a success for our students and community!

Community Highlight: Friends in Need Food Bank

MRCS has chosen Friends in Need Food Bank to tithe 10% of the donations received and support the needs of our Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows community. As Christians, we are called to serve and this will give our students the opportunity to give back to those in need.

Friends in Need Food Bank is a volunteer-driven organization, operating entirely through the generosity of our community, organizations and local businesses. With the rising cost of food, hunger issues have greatly increased. Their mission is to raise awareness around food scarcity and to support the local community. Friends in Need provides exactly that – a helping hand for those in need.

“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering that Jesus said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” – Acts 20:35
