Welcome back! We were happy to see everyone’s faces again this morning and hope you all had a restful break. Here’s the week’s reminders to kick off the new year!
1. January No School Days
This Friday, January 12 there will be no school for grades K-8 only, as it is a report card writing day for their teachers.
Friday, January 26 there is no school for the High School only, as it is a semester turn-around day.
2. January Student Attendance
Any voluntary absence from school (i.e., taking a vacation during school days) is detrimental to a student’s education. We ask that high school families be especially mindful of having their children in attendance throughout January. There are many in class final assessments for semester one courses this month that high school students must be in attendance for.
Additionally, Grade 12 students must be present for the following government-mandated assessments:
Monday, January 22, 2024 Literacy 12 Assessment from 8:35-11:40 AM
For further information regarding the school’s position on vacation and student absences, please refer to the MRCS Guidelines for Absent Students (parent portal password: community).
3. Parent Prayer Walk
Join our parent prayer team the first Wednesday of every month for a prayer walk around the school. January’s prayer walk is this Wednesday, January 10. Meet by the front doors at 8:30AM
4. General Re-registration for 2024-25 All current MRCS students will be automatically re-enrolled for the 2024-25 school year. However, to complete the process and secure your child(ren)’s spot(s), a $100 re-registration fee (per family) must be paid by Friday, January 19. Payment can be made by eTransfer or at the office by cash, cheque, or debit (credit card payment is no longer accepted for tuition and registration fees).
Please note:
Any late re-registration payments made after January 19, will be processed at $200.
Families that will not be returning for the 2024-25 school year must notify Mrs. Yvonne Cramer at *protected email* as soon as possible.
If your family has new medical or contact information, please fill out this form (parent portal password: community)
For students in the International Program, please look for an email sent recently by Ms. Maki with directions on how to re-register.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Yvonne Cramer at *protected email*
5. New Family Registration
New family registration for grades 1-12 begins on February 1 (kindergarten registration started in November). We currently have space in all grades except 5, 6, and 7, so spread the word and let’s fill these classes for the 24/25 year.
6. January School Tour
On Thursday, January 18 from 6:00-7:00 PM, new families will have the opportunity to tour our school with a staff member and ask any questions they may have regarding the MRCS experience.
If you know of any families interested in joining the MRCS community, please ask them to register for the tour by Tuesday, January 16.
The first hot lunch of the year will be Thursday, Jan 18 and we will be enjoying Boston Pizza. Thanks to the Chum / Lim family for sponsoring, in honour of their teachers and coaches here at MRCS!
8. Bottle Returns
Please think of the school when returning your bottles at Return-It bottle depots, as we have a fundraising account there! All you have to do is bring your returnables in a clear bag (90L or smaller) to any Return-It Express depot, put in the school phone number (604-465-4442) at the kiosk, stick the label on the bag, and drop it off!
The bottle depot would like to remind us to keep the caps on the bottles and not to include more than 12 glass items per bag, otherwise our account gets shut down. Thank you for your support of our students and the school.
