Student-Led Conferences

Student-Led Conferences (SLCs) in Kindergarten through Grade 8 are a communication tool that gives you insight into your child’s learning progress through your child’s point of view.

At the SLC, students share their learning progress by leading you through their learning portfolio and identifying evidence of growth. The SLCs are attended by the student, parent/guardian, and teacher(s). While the teacher will be present in the room, the SLC is led by the student.

What are the goals of Student-Led Conferences?

  • To increase student ownership, accountability, and autonomy concerning personal learning
  • To teach students the process of self-assessment and reflection for growth
  • To hone student organization, communication and critical thinking skills and to increase self-confidence
  • To build transparent relationships with families concerning student learning

What is the role of the parent/guardian?

As the second most essential attendee to the SLC (after the student), parents fill the role of supporter. Parents ask their child clarifying questions and/or share feedback towards the end of the SLC. As well, parents help the student meet his or her learning goals by supporting progress at home. We remind parents that this is a time for the student to share learning. It is important to remember that this is not a parent/teacher meeting. The focus should be on your child. If you have other questions and/or concerns you want to discuss with your child’s teacher, we ask that you email the teacher to set up a different time for this conversation. Teachers will not have play space set up in their classrooms for siblings due to the nature of the presentation.

As always, parents are strongly encouraged to be regular participants in their child’s learning journey, as the parent voice is valued and appreciated. Each student’s learning is communicated in an ongoing way through their digital portfolio. Parents may access their child’s myBlueprint account to view evidence of learning and comment on their child’s learning journey.

Drop-in Child Care

We will be able to provide drop-in child care in the gym for children ages 2-11 from 8:30 AM-3 PM. We will be unable to provide care from 3 PM-8:00 PM so please arrange childcare accordingly. This is for during your child’s session only.

  • Please note we do not have care for children under age 2. They may attend the session with you, but will not have access to toys to play with in the classroom and should be held by the parent or in a stroller for the short duration of the presentation.
  • Please do not drop a child off for the entire day.
  • Please note this is for MRCS families only.

If you plan to use this childcare please complete the following form by Monday, March 3, 2025 so we can plan accordingly:
