On Friday, May 30, students will be embarking on a 5km walk throughout our neighbourhood. We will be using the month of May to raise funds with the goal of raising $50,000 to use towards completing the third floor in the new building. To also support the needs of our local Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows communities, 10% of all proceeds will be donated to the Friends In Need food bank. As Christians, we are called to love our neighbours and this fundraiser enables our students to raise funds for our local food bank that serves our community by providing food for those in need. Your children are being given an opportunity to be a part of something bigger than themselves, blessing both those in need and also raising funds to benefit students for generations to come. Our third floor renovation will provide additional classroom space and amazing resources for our students as our MRCS community continues to grow.
The Walkathon’s success is dependent on the assistance and participation from our parent community. We are encouraging as many parents as possible to support the MRCS Walkathon through prayer, donation, and participation. We are encouraging parents (and grandparents!) to volunteer at the event or to walk with their child the day of the walkathon. Please fill in and return the Volunteer Form by next Friday.
We will be walking to Boundary Park, and then continuing on across to Powell Avenue and up to 123rd. A map route will be put on our fundraising site and also sent out closer to our walkathon date. We have spent much time and consideration to put the proper safeguards in place to ensure the safety of our students. We have connected and partnered with multiple churches and local businesses in our community who have generously offered to run stations and offer washroom space along our route. Our Kindergarten students will take a slightly shorter route of 2km. Upon the arrival back at school, we will have a wrap-up assembly that afternoon to celebrate the day, which you are welcome to attend.
You will have received an email last Friday about the Raisely platform we are using to raise funds. Other Christian schools have used this same website successfully for their walkathon fundraisers. This allows you to share the donation page with friends and family, neighbours and loved ones, to allow them to donate online, rather than collecting pledge forms, throughout the month of May. Anyone who wishes to donate can simply visit the website, search for their child’s name, and their personal fundraising page will appear. Please make sure you fill out the permission form email that was sent last Friday so we can seamlessly create your child’s fundraising page for you. Once we receive all the permissions back, you will receive another email enabling you to personalize your child’s page in the next few weeks. You can use a parent’s email for those kids that don’t have their own email address, and you can use the same email for multiple children. (Please note – if you are using the same email address, you will have one child that is the “main” name for your family. This is just back-end logistics, when you go to personalize their page or search their names they will have individual pages attached to their specific classrooms)
We are challenging each student with the goal of raising at least $150. This gives our students an opportunity to bring awareness about MRCS and Christian education to friends and family members, neighbours, coaches, and coworkers, or perhaps a local business that you use. They can get creative on how to raise money – personally ask, sending an email or posting on your social media, engage in a neighbourhood fundraiser like a car wash or lawn mowing service, sell freezies or popsicles at a soccer game, or go door to door. This is an opportunity to share our school’s mission, as well as what Maple Ridge Christian School means to you and your family.
Prizes will be given to the student who raises the most money and to the student that has the most donors in each primary, middle and high school group. Classrooms will also be keeping track of their fundraising efforts for a chance to win a class pizza party. We will also have some other fun motivators along the way!
Our prayer is that this fundraiser will be used for God’s glory and the continued flourishing of MRCS. We are grateful for your continued prayers, partnership, and support. Thank you.
