Beyond the Kitchen: How Programs Like This Shape Students for Life

How Programs Like This Shape Students for Life If you walk down the hallway on a Career Life Education (CLE) Foods class day, you might catch the unmistakable smell of something delicious cooking. You’ll also find high school students learning, chopping, mixing, and discovering practical skills that shape them long after graduation. This small but impactful program is one of many at MRCS that equips students to become creation caretakers, and community servers — and it’s the kind of learning

Beyond the Classroom

How Dirty Hands Are Building a Legacy If you ask our students what their favorite school supplies are, you might expect answers like binders or art supplies. But for one adventurous fourth grader, the answer might just be shovels, soil, and space seeds. Jerry Vos, one of our dedicated Grade 4 teachers, told story after story of students discovering God’s creation in ways that simply don’t fit inside a classroom. From restoring local forests to growing food from “space seeds,”

My Son was Saved

How do I explain in a nutshell, the awesomeness of Maple Ridge Christian School? How do I describe how God used MRCS to keep my son here on earth and still alive?  Noah was the kid that needed people to believe in him, before he could believe in himself. He was also the kid that even if you told him that the stove was hot, he would need to touch it for himself…and then touch it again with his second

Engaging Math and Science with Vertical Non-Permanent Surfaces

Our senior math and science teacher, Mr. Coulter, is transforming the way students engage with problem-solving using Vertical Non-Permanent Surfaces (VNPS)—a strategy from Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics by Peter Liljedahl. After the lesson introduction, students work in randomised small groups of three at whiteboards around the room. One student acts as a scribe while all three students discuss and collaborate regarding various problems and processes. This approach fosters conversational learning, encouraging students to talk through their thinking in a

Teaching for Transformation in Career Life

This year, Mrs. Wilson and her students in her high school career life courses are using her Deep Hope to guide their activities and learning. Mrs. Wilson’s Deep Hope for her students is that “as you pursue your career, life, and educational goals, you will first ask yourself: ‘Who does God want me to be? What kind of person is He calling me to become? How do I live Jesus’ story in my life?’ Only then should we consider, ‘What
