Parent Update: Student Technology Use Policy

Dear High School Parents,

We want to express our sincere gratitude for your ongoing support of our new Student Technology Use Policy. Since its implementation this fall, we have seen positive changes in our school environment.

With your support through conversations at home, we can also turn our challenges into opportunities for growth. When school and home partner closely, it inspires the best outcomes for your child.

As a result of this policy, teachers have noticed that most students are more socially engaged and are making better use of their learning time. Many are fostering new connections with each other, particularly during break times, when we’ve noticed a more vibrant and interactive atmosphere. It’s been wonderful to see students enjoy face-to-face conversations, deepening friendships and connections across grade levels.

Our teachers have also reported having more engaging conversations with students on the topic of healthy technology use, reflecting a shared understanding of its importance. We are proud to see that students have been mostly respectful and cooperative in following this policy, and we appreciate the example they are setting for one another.

One area we continue to see students struggle with is the use of technology in the washrooms and change rooms. The use of phones in washrooms and change rooms violates privacy, not just within school contexts, but also in other public facilities. We continue to work with students who are breaking this trust by using technology in these spaces and ask that you help by having thoughtful conversations with your child about why this policy is in place.

We would also like to encourage you to continue having conversations at home about healthy technology use. We are continuing to work on communicating the policy parameters to our students and being clear and consistent in our follow up with students.

Thank you once again for partnering with us. You can download the Student Tech Use policy, for your perusal. We continue to work with our staff and students to ensure we are all on the same page and implementing these processes in the same way.
