Worship Through Musical Excellence
Our music program invites students to engage in the arts as they worship God through learning and performing music. Students develop musical skill, creativity, and confidence while using their talents to serve and glorify God.
Benefits of Learning Music
Research shows that the benefits of learning music are wide-reaching. Music education helps children grow cognitively, emotionally, and socially.
Cognitive and Brain Benefits
Learning music enhances executive functioning, including attention, memory, and self-control, which supports overall learning and academic success. Music training also stimulates brain development by strengthening neural connections involved in auditory processing, language, and decision-making.
Emotional and Social Benefits
Learning music helps children develop emotional awareness and regulation by providing a healthy outlet for expression, which can reduce stress and build confidence. Participating in class music activities also strengthens social skills such as cooperation, listening, and empathy.
Holistic Benefits
Music education supports holistic development by strengthening discipline, perseverance, and goal-setting skills that transfer to academics and everyday life. It also enhances fine motor coordination and creativity, contributing to both physical and cognitive growth.
Elementary Music
Kindergarten to Grade 5
Right from kindergarten, students engage in playful, interactive music classes. Music and movement are key while learning developmentally-appropriate music theory as well as the collaboration of singing in a choir.
Students perform at Christmas and other special occasions such as our Grandfriends event.
Middle School Music
Grade 6 to 8
Grade 6 students master the recorder while grade 7 and 8 students specialize in a chosen concert band instrument. The benefits of learning to play an instrument are extensive and impactful on academic and social learning.
High School Band
Grade 9 to 12
Students who choose to continue playing an instrument in high school unite with other students in concert band and/or jazz band. Techniques are refined as the joy of making music melds with praising God.
Some students choose to serve the school community as part of the chapel worship band.
