As communicated previously, the MRCS Board has been engaged in a careful and prayerful process to develop a draft Gender Identity and Expression Policy. This work builds directly on the community engagement that took place at the November 23, 2023 town hall, as well as the written feedback that followed and the follow up meetings that the task force and board engaged in with this work.
We are now sharing the draft policy with you in advance of the upcoming February 5 town hall, which will be hosted by the Board.

Why the draft is being shared in advance
The purpose of sharing the draft policy ahead of time is to:
- Allow for thoughtful, unhurried review
- Ensure a shared understanding of the policy’s intent and scope
- Support a focused and constructive town hall conversation
The policy shared is a draft, not a final document. It reflects the Board’s current work informed by:
- MRCS’s foundational beliefs and bylaws
- The Board’s duty of care and governance responsibilities
- Feedback previously received from society members
- Legal and policy considerations
Important boundaries and clarifications
As you review the draft, we want to be very clear about what this policy is—and is not:
- This policy is not curriculum and does not introduce new instructional content.
- This policy exists to provide clarity and consistency for staff if situations arise, rather than leaving responses to improvisation or uncertainty.
About the February 5 town hall
The February 5 town hall is intended to:
- Review the draft policy at a high level
- Provide space for questions and feedback
- Support the Board’s ongoing discernment
The town hall is not a vote or referendum on the policy.
The Board will not be asking the community to approve or reject the draft by majority opinion. As a governing body, the Board remains responsible for final policy decisions, while valuing the input shared through this process.
As with the previous town hall, the format will be structured and guided to allow for respectful dialogue and to ensure that many voices can be heard.
Next steps
Following the town hall, the Board will:
- Review feedback shared during and after the meeting
- Continue its deliberation and refinement of the policy
- Communicate next steps clearly to the society
We are grateful for the care, conviction, and prayerful engagement of our community. Please continue to pray for wisdom, unity, and grace as we seek to be faithful to our calling as a Christ-centered school.
We look forward to connecting with you on February 5 at 7:00 PM in the elementary gym.
