Active Living 11/12 Team Building Activities
The importance of team building in influencing positive outcomes for sports teams and/or PHE classes is a vital component. Students are encouraged to work together to strategize and come up with the best possible strategy in completing the task at hand. Students learn to communicate, support, encourage and give feedback to one another as they work collaboratively to achieve a common goal. Students focused on cooperation, communication, group work and planning through a variety of cooperative games.
Teaching Games for Understanding is an approach used in Physical Education to teach sports and games. Students gain skills and knowledge to apply to different games and sports by playing a variety of games associated with the group game categories: target games, net/wall games, striking/fielding games, and zone games. Throughout the semester, the class will be looking at various sports using the TGFU model.
In a recent activity, students were divided into squads and one person from each group had to lead his/her group to safety avoiding the “landmines” (polydots) while the rest of the students had their eyes closed. Take a look at how the grade 11/12s
are working cooperatively to develop their communication and leadership skills!
