Teaching for Transformation in Career Life

This year, Mrs. Wilson and her students in her high school career life courses are using her Deep Hope to guide their activities and learning. Mrs. Wilson’s Deep Hope for her students is that “as you pursue your career, life, and educational goals, you will first ask yourself: ‘Who does God want me to be? What kind of person is He calling me to become? How do I live Jesus’ story in my life?’ Only then should we consider, ‘What do I want to do when I grow up?’”

In Mrs. Wilson’s career life courses, she uses her taglines of “See Jesus’ Story, See My Story” and “Live my Story, Live Jesus’ Story” to contemplate and critically think about their relationship with Jesus, their relationship with others, and their relationship with themselves and how it impacts all parts of life. As they follow the BC curriculum, this tagline easily and seamlessly connects to each of the units they learn about and its impacts, whether that be writing resumes and cover letters, doing peer reviews, or researching the students’ future pathways to post-secondary institutions and careers. Mrs. Wilson hopes that students can learn to understand that keeping God at the center of our lives will allow us to live in His center, where we can be changed from the inside out, which then allows us to share Jesus through our actions.
