Code of Conduct
Statement of Purpose
Maple Ridge Christian School’s Code of Conduct has been created to maintain a safe, caring and orderly school environment. This Code of Conduct is developed and implemented with our “mission of equipping, training, and inspiring students to lead a life worthy of their calling to transform the world for the glory of God” in mind. This process involves helping our students to develop a deep understanding of their part in God’s story. The purposes of the Code of Conduct are:
- To encourage the development of socially responsible behaviour resulting in a positive reputation for students and the school community.
- To foster a safe, respectful and welcoming learning environment for all students, staff and parents/guardians.
- To clearly communicate behavioural expectations to the school community.
The Code of Conduct applies to all members of the school community at school, at any school-related activity at any location, or any circumstance/activity that will have an impact on the school environment. Any member of our school community is expected to report behaviour that is not in line with the code of conduct to a staff member.
1. RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER
Statement of Purpose:
- To foster a healthy school community where all members treat each other with courtesy and respect
- To foster a community which is kind, friendly, and inclusive
- To work together in developing a sense of community-mindedness and accountability
- To promote and maintain an environment where students and staff are safe to learn and achieve success
- To ensure that all students and staff experience a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment built on respect and courtesy, recognizing that each individual brings valuable and diverse backgrounds and experiences to our community
- To ensure that students and staff have the right to a learning environment free from bullying, harassment, intimidation and dishonesty.
- To provide a safe environment to respectfully voice opinions without the fear or intimidation or inappropriate use of authority
Our Expectations:
- All members of the school community will aspire to be truth-seekers
- Our school community is founded on the principle that every person has inherent worth and dignity. Students and staff must be treated with respect and courtesy, recognizing and celebrating the diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences that each individual brings to our community.
- Bullying, intimidation (verbal, physical, mental etc), harassment and possession or use of weapons are all forms of violence will not be tolerated
- Students engage respectfully online
- Students inform a safe adult of any perceived disrespectful actions toward another person
Unacceptable Conduct:
- Slanderous comments, sexual suggestions or harassment, profanity, or other discriminatory terms
- Disrespectful or threatening language or behavior
- On-going physical, mental or psychological harassment of any student or staff member
- Participating in fighting in any way including as fighter, spectator, or promoter
2. RESPECT FOR THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Statement of Purpose:
- To promote an environment that promotes care and learning. As learners we need to have a sense of respect for our common learning environment, our own learning needs and those of others
- To ensure each student has access to a suitable space for learning
- To promote a learning environment where each learner can thrive
Our Expectations:
- To respect the rights of others to work and learn in order to thrive
- To dress appropriately for the learning activity (see Dress Code)
- Be adequately prepared for learning
- To demonstrate the best use of learning time
Unacceptable Conduct:
- Students under the influence or in possession of illegal substances at school or at school events will be subject to the Drugs, Alcohol, Tobacco, E-Cigarettes, and Vapes Policy
- Talking or socializing during class time when the teacher is talking or when students should be working independently
- Digitally (audio/visual) recording lessons and/or learning environments without the explicit consent of the parties involved
- Unexpected behaviour that distracts from the learning
3. RESPECT OF FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT
Statement of Purpose:
- To promote a respectful environment through responsible use of facilities, equipment, and vehicles
- To ensure safety regulations are followed for the safety of all students and staff
- To care for the school and property
Our Expectations:
- Facilities and Grounds- all members of our community are expected to keep the school facilities and grounds neat and tidy. Individuals are expected to clean up after themselves
- Lockers are the property of the school and are loaned to students. Students may store school-related items and supplies there
- Rollerblades, Bikes, Scooters and Skateboards- are not allowed to be used within the school or on school grounds. These items must not be stored inside the school building. Students are responsible for securing their property.
- Books and Laptops- Students are responsible for the books and laptops signed out to them. Items are assigned using a barcode and students are responsible for the item with the barcode signed out to them.
- All school property and items are used for their designated purpose
- Washrooms and change rooms are to be treated with respect and used for their designated purpose only
Unacceptable Conduct:
- Intentional destruction of property, such as graffiti, vandalism, theft of personal and/or school property
- Disrespectful and/or careless use of other students’ or school materials and spaces
- Littering on or near the school grounds
