Family members: Carolyn – Mother, Ian – Father, Will – Brother
Hobbies or past times: I have really enjoyed playing on the girls basketball team since middle school, it has been a great way to connect with all the girls and build closer relationships with them. I have also enjoyed travelling with my family and family friends, The Studimans. My favourite place I have been to is New York and the Bahamas, and I am planning on travelling a lot in the future.
Core Competency I developed in my time at MRCS: Communication: A Core Competency that I feel I relate to and have developed is Communication. I feel this relates to me because I am an extrovert and I love to engage with others and build strong relationships. MRCS is a great community which makes it easy to interact with others and really get to know the community.
Biblical Through-line I developed in my time at MRCS: Temple-Keeper: A biblical through-line that is very important to me is being a Temple-Keeper. I feel this represents me very well as I like to have a healthy lifestyle and keep fit. I do this not only with exercise, but I also like to have a healthy mindset and keep a positive attitude. This has been taught to me by surrounding myself with positive people around me and making strong bonds with close friends that motivate me. I also have a big passion for playing sports! We’ve always been taught that we are made in God’s perfect image, so why wouldn’t we want to honour Him by taking care of ourselves?
How my time at MRCS developed my relationship with God and with others: MRCS has had a huge impact on my faith. For example, some ways I have been impacted are just through all the love and support the teachers show by giving us devotions and praying for us constantly. I also have been impacted by having such amazing friends that through which I can see God’s love shining.
A highlight from my time at MRCS: Everyday at MRCS there are memories and highlights constantly being made, but if I had to pinpoint a few I would have to say this year’s basketball trips. This year, we got the chance to go play in Penticton in December for a tournament, and for the first time ever for our school we got the chance to place in the BC provincials championships in Kelowna. On both of these trips we made so many amazing memories from swimming in the pool to late night girl talks in the hotel rooms. None of this would’ve happened without the MRCS community and our beloved coach, Scott O’Dell.
Future plans for after graduation: After graduation, I am attending Columbia Bible College in the fall. I will be doing the Educational Assistant Program. I’ve always had a soft spot for kids, especially kids with disabilities. I’ve worked with kids in my church in the Sunday School and I’ve just felt so much joy with them, and getting to share God’s love with them has been a fulfilling experience. This year I started to TA in Mrs. Owen’s Grade 1 classroom, and it has been such an amazing opportunity for me to connect with the kids and make friendships with them. I am also really looking forward to continuing to grow closer with my relationship with God! I have a huge passion for travelling and I am looking forward to keep traveling after all of this blows over.
One thing about MRCS that I want others to know: MRCS has been the most amazing experience of my life. All the friendships and relationships I have built since Kindergarten is astonishing. I have loved all the teachers and all the students so much, and I am sad I am losing precious time with them, but I know God has a plan.
