The Buzz October 26, 2020

A Season of Reflection

We recognize that Future Me Day on October 29 is very close to Halloween on October 31. Although we don’t dress up in Halloween costumes at MRCS, we do celebrate the accomplishments of past Christians and look forward to the future paths our students will walk in their Christian faith.

This is all in keeping with the historical tradition of this time of year. Halloween means “the eve of all hallows” which is the Christian Feast of All Saints. It is a day for Christians to remember and celebrate the men and women of faith who have gone before us.

October 31 is also an important date for our churches. On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the Wittenberg Church door, demanding changes. He reminded the church of the authority of Scripture and that salvation through Christ is free.

This season, we hope you join us in taking time to reflect on and appreciate those who heed Jesus’ call to take up their cross and follow Him. We also ask that you join us in praying for the students of MRCS as they consider their own futures and God-inspired adventures that are still to come.

K-7 Future Me Day!

This Thursday (October 29) is Future Me Day for kindergarten to Grade 7 students! Students are asked to consider what they would like to be when they grow up and use their imaginations to find clothing/accessories from home that convey their future goals. For example, Ellie (pictured) would like to be a teacher just like her mom! She put together this ensemble — complete with Starbucks cup — all on her own.

We look forward to exploring future opportunities for the K-7 students and discussing how they can live out their Christian faith in any profession they choose.

Please note that Future Me Day is completely voluntary and students are free to opt out, if preferred.

Student Photo Retakes

This Friday (October 30), Photo Express will be back onsite to take photos for students who missed the first photo day or for those who would like a photo retake. Here are the steps that Photo Express has provided for requesting a photo retake:

  • Fill in the retake form (link below).
  • Please include the reason you would like the photo retaken and have your child attend retake day. Retakes are not pre-paid and a new proof will be sent home. If you don’t like the retake, and prefer the original portrait, there is a $10 processing fee to unarchive it.

Mind Your Pick-up Time Slot

We’re happy to report that the morning drop off continues to go quite smoothly! As the year progresses, though, we are noticing a shift in the flow of traffic for the afternoon pick up as families arrive outside of their allotted time slot. We recognize that there are circumstances that may affect your timing, but we ask that you continue to aim for your family’s assigned drop-off and pick-up slots:

Esperanza Update

Under the current health and safety restrictions, our annual missions trip to Esperanza cannot happen. We are looking into innovative ways that we can continue to support the mission and vision Esperanza. We will provide you with information as it becomes available.
