The Buzz March 29, 2021

Easter Dates

As we welcome back our students from Spring Break, we are already anticipating some upcoming dates that are fast approaching. Please note that the school is closed this Friday, April 2 and Monday, April 5.

Our Easter Chapel video will be shown in K-12 classrooms on Tuesday, April 6. The video can also be viewed at home via our school Vimeo and YouTube channels.

We pray that you all enjoy a blessed long weekend remembering the death of our Lord and Saviour and celebrating His victory rising from the grave.

Thank you!

We appreciate the K-5 students who participated in Jump Rope for Heart and thank everyone who supported their efforts by making a donation to Canada’s Heart and Stroke Foundation. Our school raised over $5,000 to help fund critical research that’s preventing heart disease and stroke while also supporting survivors and their families.

Staff Updates

As of April 15, Mrs. Grace Newbigging will be going on medical leave. Mrs. Jane Keyes is already in the Grade 2/3 classroom as the teaching role transitions over to her until the end of the school year. Mrs. Keyes has extensive teaching experience and is a familiar face around MRCS because of her on-call teaching over the past 15 years.

Mrs. Karla Hennig will not be returning after her maternity leave due to an upcoming move to northern BC. We are grateful for Mrs. Hennig’s time at MRCS and wish her all the best in her new home with her beautiful family.

Town Hall Meeting

The MRCS Board of Directors is hosting a town hall meeting over Zoom on Wednesday, April 14. You are invited to come to hear about the progress of our building project and be a part of the conversation! The Zoom information will be sent out closer to the meeting date.

School Immunization Program Update

Fraser Health’s Immunization Program for school-aged children will resume this year beginning with students in grades 7 and 10 who missed their immunizations during the 2019-2020 school year due to COVID-19. These appointments will be located at local public health units. Health unit staff will contact families to book these immunization appointments over the spring and summer.

Immunization information for Kindergarten, Grade 6 and 9 students from the 2020-2021 school year will be provided at a future date.

Auction Items/Services

We are in need of new items/services for our Adventure Begins online auction! We are open to any donations, but can also provide these suggestions for our adventure-themed event:

  • New outdoor adventure equipment: kayak, paddleboards, snowshoes, ski equipment, etc.
  • Hiking equipment: Hiking poles, water bladder, compact First Aid kit, whistle, emergency blanket, wool socks, satellite communications device, etc.
  • Camping equipment: JetBoil thermos, sleeping bag, camping stove, tent, etc.
  • Backpacking gear: outdoor backpack, thermos, water bottle, etc.
  • Campfire kit: s’mores ingredients, roasting sticks, firewood, etc.
  • Beach gear: chairs, umbrella, towels, sunblock, hats, etc.

By going online, this year’s auction will likely have the largest audience in its history. Both our school and any businesses that donate to the auction will get a big boost of recognition.

  • Businesses are invited to send their logo with a photo and a description of their auction item/service.
  • Individuals or families can let us know if they would like public recognition.

Please submit your donation by March 31 via this online form: Auction Donation Form »
