Current Mask Mandate for K-12 Schools
Over the weekend, we received further clarification for the Ministry of Education regarding the mask guidelines for staff, visitors, and students in grades 4-12. All K to 12 staff and all students in grades 4 to 12 are required to wear non-medical masks in all indoor areas, including:
- At their work stations (desks)
- On school buses
- Within and outside learning groups
There are some exceptions which include when one is behind a barrier, eating or drinking, temporarily removing their mask for an educational purpose such as playing an instrument, and where visual cues and facial expressions are necessary.
For a complete list of exceptions, please visit the COVID 19 Safe School website.
If you have questions or concerns in regards to the government’s decision, the most effective avenue of response will be to reach out to your local Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) as they can speak directly to the government that is working closely with the Provincial Health Officer to make these decisions.
Finally, I want to assure families that as per the Ministry of Education’s guidelines, we will be offering a complete education to any of our students who are exempt from wearing a mask.
As always, I pray that Shalom of Jesus will continue to be amongst us all and that we continue to live out our vision of being a mission-minded community where every student thrives.

Town Hall Meeting
The MRCS Board of Directors is hosting a town hall meeting over Zoom on Wednesday, April 14. You are invited to come to hear about the progress of our building project and be a part of the conversation! The Zoom information will be sent out closer to the meeting date.
After April 9, Mrs. Grace Newbigging will be going on medical leave. Mrs. Jane Keyes is already in the Grade 2/3 classroom as the teaching role transitions over to her until the end of the school year. Mrs. Keyes has extensive teaching experience and is a familiar face around MRCS because of her on-call teaching over the past 15 years.
Mrs. Karla Hennig will not be returning after her maternity leave due to an upcoming move to northern BC. We are grateful for Mrs. Hennig’s time at MRCS and wish her all the best in her new home with her beautiful family.
School Immunization Program Update
Fraser Health’s Immunization Program for school-aged children will resume this year beginning with students in grades 7 and 10 who missed their immunizations during the 2019-2020 school year due to COVID-19. These appointments will be located at local public health units. Health unit staff will contact families to book these immunization appointments over the spring and summer.
Immunization information for Kindergarten, Grade 6 and 9 students from the 2020-2021 school year will be provided at a future date.
